I ran into a little issue with my gas setup. The connector that goes onto the propane tank has a safety device preventing a large volume of gas to suddenly come out. The idea is, if there's a failure somewhere there will be an uncontrolled gas flow, so the check valve come loose and stop the flow.
Normally this isn't an issue because you generally turn the gas on low, light it, and turn it up. The problem is with the ASCO, it instantly opens the flow. So, to keep the check valve from triggering, I need to have the tank valve opened low, which then makes for a lame burner flame. I thought of buying a different connector, which would handle higher BTUs. The one I had with my regulator is actually for a pretty low volume, (which seems strange on a 30 psi regulator). Instead, I just took a small drill bit and drilled out the check valve. Yeah... circumventing safety!
This seems to solve my problem with the ASCO. So, now I can turn the regulator up, and when the Love temperature controller fires, it opens the solenoid and won't spring the check valve... so heads up for anyone using an automated solenoid.
