So if using this for a chest freezer (what I am currently doing) does your optin allow the freezer to stay on (factory lights) and only switch the compressor? Or does it shut the whole thing off and on. And also are you buying an extension cord, the hack the plug off the one that came on your chest freezer and putting that black into 11 and the wires from the new cord, pluged into the wall with teh plug and the bare wire ends plugged into 8 jumpered to 10?

The controller overrides the entire freezer. So, when the controller turns the freezer on, it thinks it needs to keep running to freeze, but the controller turns it off well before then.

With the extension cord, I'm just basically cutting it in half. One halve plugs into the wall, the other plugs into the freezer with the controller wired inline. This way, you're not damaging the freezer's cord, cause you might want to use it as regular freezer some day. :)

Why the splice on the ground? Where's that going besides straight to the outlet? ...just confused, I'm electrically challenged.

The splice on the ground is because I cut out a length of wire to make the jumper wires. So, that just reconnects the ground from the wall and device. If you don't need extra wire, then there's no need to cut the ground wire.

Does anybody know where to buy a love temp switch? I can't seem to find the model 13010 that everybody seems to use in RIMS. The love switches I find now either don't come with probes, or don't come with thermo wells. I can find lots of other love switches, but nothing with a thermo well, or any thermo wells that seem to fit.

You can order them directly from Dwyer.

I have a question. I noticed your old system used a Ranco and your new one uses a Love controller. Why is that, also which do you like better? I am asking, because I use a Ranco similar to yours, but am getting inacurate and slow temp readings right next to my brewmometer. I was wondering if the Love temp reading is faster and more accurate

The Love controllers are more programmable, but mostly cheaper. The Ranco units I showed were for my fermentation and lager temp control. So, I plugging and unplugging stuff while experimenting. I knew I needed to buy more controllers because I'm so lazy. I went with the Love to save a few bucks, cause I'm cheap too.

I also had a fantasy about making a nifty control panel some day. Those would be nice since they're compact. Who knows if that will ever happen. Everything works good now, and again, I'm lazy.

If you just need a simple hot/cold switch with a differential, the Ranco is a great off-the-shelf solution.
