I brewed up an American Red/Amber last weekend and gave the new false bottom a try. The recipe used 3.3 ounces of pellets and 2 ounces of whole. Things seems to go fine. I was little concerned with the pellets clogging up the works, but didn't seem to have any issues.
I did my regular recirculation chill, then did a manual whirlpool. I let everything settle out for 20 minutes, then drained. I was thinking of just waiting 5 next time since the whole hops seemed to do a great job of filtering. There was still trub below the false bottom but the hops may have got most of it, maybe most of the crud that won't settle out in 5 minutes.
