I felt this festival was one of the worst layouts of any festival I have ever been to. The number of choke points for the people moving from place to place was way too large to count.

The Michigan Brewers Guild should push the ballpark/venue into giving them some of their money back since they didn't clear all of the snow/ice out of the walk ways or parking lot. And they didn't have the venue properly set up for an event. There were people in wheel chairs and crutches that could probably only get to about 1/8th of the beer available.

I was in Lansing two years ago and had a much, much better time there. I only stuck around for an hour and a half this year before I got fed up and went downtown to Hopcat/Founders.

With all that said, there was some really good beer here, but it became more hassle than I wanted to put up with.

My only complaint about the festival would be the ice and I realize that is a big deal. You should never have that big of a safety hazard at a public event. The problem most likely stemmed from the fact that it is a baseball field and why would a city pay for maintenance of a summer venue in the middle of winter. They had a whole winter of neglect to catch up on. I do know volunteers from the MBG enthusiasts came in on Friday to chip away at the ice. It makes me wonder how much the city did to prepare for the festival.

I didn't have the problem of moving between venues and the line for the bathrooms were long but at least when I was in them they were fast moving.

All in all,I had a great time. MI has some great breweries and they brought some excellent beer.

Pretty much it. Despite the issues, still a good time. I'd rather the brewers be closer together and at least some cover from the weather. It was a nice day, but I wouldn't count on that happening too often in MI.

I don't want to gripe, because it was a good fest. I could, however, see problems, and see real problems in the future. I'd like to see the Guild plan for the worst and hope for the best.

I emailed Scott Graham about the location, and the gist of it was they're looking at lots of ideas, but they in general seem happy with 5/3 Park and seems they think they can make it work there. So, unfortunately for at least the mid-Michigan craft scene, it seems to be staying on the west coast.
